Medicine Hat Mavericks Trounce Red Sox
The Medicine Hat Mavericks faced the Regina Red Sox at Athletic Park last night in the first game of the Best-of-Three series.
MEDICINE HAT, AB - The Medicine Hat Mavericks faced the Regina Red Sox at Athletic Park last night defeating the Sox 11-3.
After a scoreless first inning the Mavs were on the board first with a two run second inning. Regina tied up the game by scoring two in the fourth. The Mavs pulled ahead in the fifth with a two run inning to lead 5-3 at that point and they never looked back. They scored three more in the bottom of the seventh to make it 8-3 and finished of with 3 more runs in the eighth.
The Mavericks (30-26) finished the regular season in second place in the WCBL Eastern Division while the Regina Red Sox (23-33) finished in third place. The Mavericks caught fire at the tail end of the regular season and were 7-3 in their last 10 games while Red Sox were 3-7 in their final 10 games. The Mavericks have home field advantage during the 3 game series.
The next game is in Regina tonight with the deciding game if necessary at Athletic Park on Wednesday. If the Mavs win tonight they will face either the division leading Moose Jaw Miller Express or the Swift Current 57's who are facing each other in the other half of the divisional playoffs.
