Mavs Pound Dawgs - Take Game 2

MEDICINE HAT, AB - The Medicine Hat Mavericks took the field Wednesday at Athletic Park in front of a sold out crowd, hoping to stay alive and avenge an 8-0 loss Tuesday night to the Okotoks Dawgs.

The Mavs got off to a quick start scoring 4 runs off 2 hits and 1 error in the bottom of the first with runs by Gardner, Dousett, Bean and Savage. Both teams were held scoreless in the second and each scored 2 runs in the third with the Mavs leading 6-2 after three innings.

The bats came alive for the Mavs with 5 runs off 4 hits and 1 error in the bottom of the fourth with runs by Gardner, Dousett, Bean, Savage and Vanneste. Both teams were again held scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings but each sored a run in the seventh to make it 12-3 Mavs. Medicine Hat looked like the game was in the bag when the Dawg started to find their fight after what was a lackluster game to that point for the best team of the WCBL regular season.

The Dawgs started clawing back into the game with a run in the top of the eighth and with the Mavs pitching starting to struggle, scored 5 runs off 5 hits in the top of the ninth before the Mavs shut them down and finish the game with a final score of 12-9.

The attempted comeback in the late innings by the Dawgs shows that they are team you can't give opportunities to at anytime or they will take advantage of them. The Mavs forced a winner take all game 3 in Okotoks Thursday night at Seaman Field to crown the 2023 WCBL Champion. Gametime starts at 7:05 PM.
