Mavericks rally late to take game one against Moose Jaw
MOOSE JAW, SK - The Medicine Hat Mavericks rallied in late innings Friday to derail the Moose Jaw Miller Express by a score of 5 to 4.
The Express took an early lead with two runs on 4 hits off Bryce Libke in the first inning. Medicine Hat tied it up by the top of fourth with a single by Tory Nelson that sent Dominic VanDoorne home. The Express answered back in the bottom of the fourth with 2 more runs to retake the lead 4 to 2.
Those runs would be last Moose Jaw scored. Medicine Hat added runs in the sixth off a bases loaded wild pitch and in the seventh with a bases load walk on Dominic VanDoorne.
With the game tied heading into the ninth, a double by VanDoorne put Tyler Vanneste into scoring position for the winning run. With two outs, a wild pitch by Zach Sigmon of the Express allowed Vanneste to score the go ahead run.
Mavs pitcher Adam Golby, who came into the game in the fifth, shut down the Express and retired the side with three up and three down to win the game.
The Mavs head home for tomorrow’s second game of the three game series with the ability to oust the West Division regular season leaders and head to the WCBL Championship.
